Checking In With Yourself

You are great at asking other people how they are. Whether it's your friends, coworkers, neighbors, or family, you ask, "How are you," without a problem, but you never ask, "How are you doing," to the one person who needs it the most...yourself.

You go through your days, weeks, and months and never even think about asking yourself how you are doing. The same thing happens when you're taking care of everyone else and forget to take care of yourself. When you don't check in with yourself on a regular basis so much can go wrong.

What does checking in with yourself mean? Make sure you are okay. Mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually find out where you are. Is everything aligned? Are you off balance somewhere? Where are you out of sync? How do you feel about your life? Your work? Your future? Money? Time? Dating? Where do you see yourself in a year or in five years?

If you're not finding out how you are doing, it's very easy to be driven by emotions and not rationale. When you make emotional decisions, often times they are on a whim, not thought out, and not going to yield the best outcome for you or your family. When you're not finding out how you are doing, you might have a meltdown or breakdown and not even really know why. You're not alone, but it doesn't have to be like that.

It's imperative that you check in with yourself daily. Before you go to bed, sit down and ask yourself how you feel about the day. What happened? What didn't happen? Where are you in it? How do you feel and think about it? How will you act, react, or behave about it?

Aligning yourself daily allows you to know your next course of action. What needs to be done, accomplished, or achieved? Where do you stand relative to where you want to be? Who can help you? Being able to ask yourself where you are and where you stand allows you to insight into yourself so you can succeed, because you'll be in tune with who you are and what you want. It will provide amazing clarity into yourself, your career, your family, and your future.

If something is foggy, you will not only see it better, you will feel it. You will get the answers you seek, the knowledge to go further, and ability to serve others. You will be a better version of yourself. So before you ask someone else how she is, ask yourself how you are....every single day. Then watch the magic transpire, when you start realizing what you're capable of.

Are You Chasing the Right Dream

The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.

~~ William James, famed psychologist

Achieving certain dreams often requires FAR LESS WORK than achieving other, seemingly easier goals. Why is that so?

Because it is much, much harder to work for a goal we do not passionately desire. But when you manage to get yourself focused on what is naturally of passionate interest to you your work becomes play.

Are Your Goals a Good Fit?

Hopefully you've invested some thought clarifying your life goals and you know exactly what you want. So why not take a few minutes to ask yourself an important question am I pursuing the right goal for ME?

Here's why that is so important: You'll never really achieve your true potential as long as you pour your energy into something that doesn't really fit your true passions and interests! Does that seem too simple?

Think about that for a moment. It's unfortunately very easy to automatically adopt someone else's goal. We were trained to do that very thing as children.

Ninty-nine percent of us were fully expected to achieve the goals our parents and educational system set out for us. Some of us gave in and tried to do so. Some of us rebelled and learned to fail instead. And some of us felt somehow inadequate because we did not have the natural interest and or aptitude to do what we were expected to do.

If you find you never seem to achieve your goals, you may be setting goals you don't really desire or believe in for yourself.

This is never going to lead to success. What it will lead to is one false start after another and a tendency to want to quit after the first bump in the road.

This is a major dead-end, and will do nothing but gradually erode your self confidence.

Ask Yourself This...

You need to be sure your goal really is YOUR goal for YOUR life. If you feel resistance, take a serious look at that. Ask yourself who you might really be setting that goal for?

Then ask yourself if you really have a burning passion for that goal, and are willing to butt heads with as many so-called failures as necessary to achieve it.

If your answer is no this may be a good time to revisit your goal setting exercise. Selecting an Appropriate Goal

Three things will happen if you make the effort to refocus yourself around a goal that is more in keeping with your natural talents and passions:

First, you will be happier, less stressed, and far more productive.

Second, you will be far more likely to hang in as you hit those jarring bumps in the road.

And third, there is a higher probability you will achieve a level of excellence at what you're doing. This increases your value thereby increasing your potential for increased return on your efforts.

So put your goal to the test. Does it truly measure up to your innermost desires? Achieve it.

The secrets of goal achievement are actually quite clear cut:

Have burning passion for what is desired,

Set a clear and exact goal to get it,

Make an absolute commitment to achieve the goal,

Be willing to pay the price for achieving it, and

Commit to focused action, focused action and more focused action.

5 Ways To Boost Your Self Esteem

While for many, self-esteem issues are a transitional part of growing into an adult and finding a place in the world, scientific research studies show that people with continued low self-esteem are also more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, poor physical health, and even a lower income later on in life.

Those with long lasting issues of low self-esteem know only too well that it is not something you grow out of, but something that sits in the subconscious mind and continues to effect every part of life for years. How then can we enhance self esteem.

Here are five ways that you can do just that.

1. Model Confident People

Noticing what confident people do, how they speak, the ways they behave, can provide vital clues to finding self-esteem inside yourself. Who is the most confident person you can think of? When you have them firmly in your mind, ask yourself these questions: how do they hold their shoulders? How do they stand? How do they walk? What clothes do they wear? How do they behave when with other people? What sort of things do you imagine they say about themselves? And if they were in your situation, what would they do?

This questioning goes far beyond "fake it till you make it" - it links us into the answers already inside us. Once you have a list of what that confident person would do, go ahead and model this behaviour. Try it on for a few hours, a day, even a few days. Notice how everything you do, and the events around you, begin to change on their own.

2. Advertise Yourself

When you have to convince someone else about your strengths, it can have a fantastic effect on your self-esteem. Sitting down and really thinking about all your skills, gifts and talents is a wonderful reminder of all the good things about being you. Try writing an advertisement selling yourself as the perfect partner, house mate, friend, etc, with a full description of why anyone would be lucky to have you around. Don't be afraid to blow your own trumpet. This isn't an exercise in modesty, but in self-esteem.

3. Work On Your Resume

Resumes are all about convincing someone to hire your time and your expertise. Giving your resume a regular update can also give your self-esteem a great boost. Alternatively, update your Facebook profile. Strange as it sounds, there is now research from Cornell University in New York to prove that people who view their Facebook profiles more regularly have better self-esteem. You get to go back and view your clever status updates, your significant dates and events, and photos of good times.

4. Say Positive Things About Yourself

Saying positive things about yourself, to yourself or others, is important. What we say about ourselves reveals a lot about our level of self-esteem. When we rehearse only what we do wrong, or don't like about ourselves, our brain builds neural pathways for these conversations, till eventually negative self-talk is practically automatic.

If you are not used to talking about yourself in a positive way, you will simply have to learn how. Keep practicing, choose a few nice things to say or think about yourself and use them as a mantra every day. It can be something you are proud of about yourself, or positive things you remember others saying about you in the past.

The more you repeat this, the easier the behaviour will become as your nervous system will build more neural connections to this positive self-talk, and less to the negative self-talk.

5. Is It You, Or Is It Them?

The people who surround us, at home, at school, at work, or in social settings, can have a huge impact on our self-esteem. Either they will support us, making us feel better about ourselves, or their negativity will bring us down emotionally. This may not be intentional. Some people just seem to notice what's wrong more than on what's right.

If you find there are people in your life who make you feel bad about yourself, you need to make a decision. Can you counteract the effect they are having with you? Or do you need to do some prunning?

Do you really need to be around people who make you feel bad about yourself? Choose to associate with positive people that make you feel alive, happy, and optimistic about life.

Deciding to spend less time with people isn't about making anyone else 'wrong' or 'bad' -- it has to do with making clear decisions about how you want to feel, and asserting your right to feel good instead of bad.

Use these strategies on a regular basis and you really will boost your self-esteem -- and increase your self-confidence.
